Ice Sculpting competitions are rapidly
becoming very lucrative for both organizers
and artists alike.
This year, more than 200 ice sculptors
battled for over $100,000 in cash
and prizes just in North America alone.

Magical Ice Festival 2007

14th Ice Magic International Ice Sculpture Competition
Banff / Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada
Professional Team Event: 15 Blocks, 300# each in only 30 Hours.

The "TIGER SHARK" shown below
was the design used to win the "2008 TOUR OF CHAMPIONS"

N.I.C.A. Sanctioned events are judged on criteria such as how well the seams are hidden where 2 pieces of ice are attached. Higher scores are given if these lines don't run right through the sculpture where they distract from the composition.
Utilizing all the available ice and having an original design that hasn't been done before also help a sculpture score high.
